Perry grew up on the edge of the Potteries, spending her time as a child surrounded by the rich history of the ceramics industry. She always knew she wanted to be an artist.
Since being introduced to Porcelain on the Art Foundation course, at Newcastle-under-Lyme College in 2000, it was immediately apparent to her that she had an affinity with this beautiful clay. Perry has since nurtured her love for and invested her skills in this notoriously hard to work with material.
Unusually she hand-builds all her pieces out of individually rolled and textured Porcelain slabs, creating delicate, simple vessel forms – both utilitarian and sculptural. Her recent lighting exquisitely exploits the translucent qualities of this stunning material, illuminating whichever texture is used.
Perry gained a BA honors in Ceramics at Wolverhampton University in 2004 and since then has been developing her work and selling it in the UK and Europe.
Based in the Staffordshire Moorlands Perry lives with her growing family and works from a home studio built by herself and her partner Dan. Alongside Perry’s studio practice she has also taught art in college and is currently developing a program of ceramic workshops to be delivered from her studio.
Working with clients to create bespoke pieces is the highlight of Perry’s studio practice and she enjoys meeting with people and working to a brief to create new pieces. She looks forward to growing this element of her practice as she continues to work with interior designers to create pieces for specific client needs.
